Fayetteville resident Michael Graves was in court on March 14 facing charges for the murder of his nephew, Jason Brett Graves, and is out on a $250,000 bond and confined to his home.

Superior Court Judge Fletcher Sams ordered that Graves, 68, who was charged on Feb. 26 for the murder of his nephew, Jason Brett Graves, be granted a $250,000 bond, wear an ankle monitor and will be confined to his home.

Assistant District Attorney Warren Sellers on Tuesday said Graves will be confined to his home and will be required to wear an ankle monitor. Graves can only leave his home to go to and from court and is prohibited from having communications with potential witnesses, Sellers said.

Fayetteville resident Jason Brett Graves, 42, died Feb. 20 after suffering a gunshot wound to the chest at the family’s salvage yard business on Eastin Road.

Michael Graves told investigators he shot his nephew.

Warrants were subsequently issued for felony murder, malice murder and two counts of aggravated assault for Michael Graves’s arrest based on interviews by sheriff’s investigators and with the assistance of the Fayette County District Attorney’s office.

Graves subsequently turned himself at the sheriff’s office, Sheriff Barry Babb said.

Regarding the Feb. 20 incident, Babb said Michael Graves called 911 at 6:27 p.m., stating that he had shot his nephew, Jason Brett Graves.

Babb said deputies responded to Graves Used Cars and Parts located at 205 Eastin Road and found Jason Graves lying on the floor of the salvage yard business with a gunshot wound to the chest.

Jason Brett Graves was transported to Piedmont Fayette Hospital where he was pronounced dead, said Babb.

Babb said both men were connected to the business on Eastin Road.
