A routine drug sweep at McIntosh High School on Feb. 12 led to the arrest of a student with suspected marijuana in his vehicle.

The report by the Peachtree City Police Department said K-9 units searched the areas of the school including lockers and the parking lot. Department spokesman Mark Brown said the action was part of a routine drug sweep conducted at the city’s middle and high schools.

While searching the parking lot one of the dogs indicated a positive hit on a vehicle. The vehicle was searched by school administrators, revealing a green, leafy substance thought to be marijuana found scattered in the front floor board area, reports said.

The student operating the vehicle was apprehended and taken to the administration office and was questioned about the find. The student stated that he did smoke marijuana in the vehicle on the previous day and that he was alone when doing so, said reports.

The student was charged with misdemeanor marijuana possession and arrested.

The search was conducted by K-9 teams from the Peachtree City Police Department, Fayette County Sheriff’s Office and the Fayetteville Police Department.
