A Union City man was charged with aggravated assault after a Jan. 1 incident at the home of a Peachtree City woman.

Marcus A. Hinton, 33, was charged with aggravated assault and interfering with a 911 call, according to Fayette County Jail records.

Peachtree City Police spokesperson Odilia Bergh said the incident was reported at approximately 5 a.m. and unfolded some time after Hinton arrived at the home at the woman’s request New Year’s Day. Hinton maintained that the woman later became aggressive toward him, Bergh said.

The homeowner maintained that Hinton became upset after she confronted him about an infidelity issue, at which point he became upset and attacked her, said Bergh.

Hinton struck the woman in the face with his fist, threw her to the floor and choked her, according to reports. The woman bit Hinton and scratched him, with officers confirming that Hinton had scratches on his chest and appeared to have rug burns in the area of his knees, reports said.

During the altercation, the woman attempted to call 911 but Hinton took the phone from her, said reports.

Officers at the scene determined that Hinton was the primary aggressor and took him into custody, said Bergh.
