Origiinal story: Members of Civil Air Patrol’s Peachtree City Falcon Field Composite Squadron have partnered once more with Wreaths Across America, a nonprofit organization that recognizes U.S. military veterans who have guarded and preserved America’s freedom by placing remembrance wreaths on the graves of the fallen during the yearend holiday season.
“This is an opportunity for the entire community to honor our departed Veterans either by sponsoring a wreath, attending the ceremony or both,” said Commander Lt. Col. David Mitchell of Civil Air Patrol’s Peachtree City Falcon Field Composite Squadron.
By placing a remembrance wreath on the graves of military veterans during the holiday season, Wreaths Across America seeks to remember, honor and teach others about the courage and sacrifices of the men and women who have served in the armed forces.
The public is cordially invited join CAP in the laying of the wreaths Dec. 12 at Westminster Memorial Garden, 2090 Hwy. 54 in Peachtree City, beginning at 10 a.m. followed by the Dedication Ceremony at noon.
Gen. Scott F. “Rock” Donahue, US Army, (Ret.) and commandant for Georgia Military College, is the guest speaker. Light refreshments will be served. To sponsor a wreath, visit www.ga116.org.
Civil Air Patrol, the longtime all-volunteer U.S. Air Force auxiliary, is the newest member of the Air Force’s Total Force, which consists of Regular Air Force, Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve, along with Air Force retired military and civilian employees. Its members additionally play a leading role in aerospace education and serve as mentors to more than 24,000 young people currently participating in the CAP cadet program. Civil Air Patrol, the nonprofit organization also participates in Wreaths Across America, an initiative to remember, honor and teach about the sacrifices of U.S. military veterans.
