Tonight, Fayetteville Main Street presents “BIG HERO  6” as its second free Moovie Night of 2015 at the Southern Ground Amphitheater.  Beginning at 7 p.m., families are encouraged to come out for an evening of fun, music, and movies.  Those attending should bring their own chair or blanket.  The movie will begin shortly after sundown.Before the movie, a DJ will play songs for all ages, and kids can meet and dance with the Chick-Fil-A cows.   New Vision Church will serve free snow cones, and the Legacy Theater of Dance will make a special live performance that evening.  The MOM’s Club of Fayetteville will sell glow necklaces to continue their fundraising efforts for the Church Street Park.  The Fayetteville Dwarf House will provide FREE Chick-Fil-A kids meals to kids 12 and under, and adult meals will be available for $7.  The gates will open at 7 p.m.  Moovie Night is sponsored by the Chick-Fil-A Fayetteville Dwarf House.  For more info on this and other planned events in Downtown Fayetteville, please check the Main Street Events Calendar at Fayetteville-ga.gov.

Community members are invited to participate in Piedmont Fayette Hospital’s August Walk with a Doc featuring Harry Snapperman, M.D., family medicine physician. The walk is today from 8:30-9:30 a.m. at Patriot Park on Redwine Road in Fayetteville. Prior to joining Piedmont Physicians, Dr. Snapperman was in practice with Fayette Medical Clinic since 1999. He is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and has a strong interest in primary care, sports medicine and outdoor medicine. During the event, Dr. Snapperman will take a few minutes to talk about a health topic of his choice and participants can ask questions for the remainder of the session (approximately 40 minutes). Local art group AMG Pro will be hosting its first annual Authors’ Gathering Saturday, today from  4-6 p.m. at the newly renovated Holiday Dorsey Fife Museum in Fayetteville. The event will showcase a bevy of talented local writers in various genres who will network with fans, share their stories, and auction off themed gift baskets. There will be light refreshments, several giveaways, and an opportunity to bid in a silent auction featuring the authors’ theme baskets. Aspiring authors and those who love to read or support the arts are invited to this free event designed to celebrate creative writing. Proceeds will benefit AMG Pro’s support of all the arts as well as to the Holiday Dorsey Fife Museum. AMG Pro’s mission is to seek talent, advocate, and obtain financial support in order to ensure high quality services for local authors, artists, musicians, and more. There will be two featured presentations for prospective professional writers. One is about ghostwriting and the other is about building an online presence.

Open Hearts Day Respite, a ministry of North Fayette United Methodist Church hosts an open house from 1-5 p.m. in Building C at the church, 847 New Hope Road in Fayetteville. This ministry provides respite for the caregiver and strives to meet the social, emotional and physical needs of adults of all ages. It supports the efforts of the family to keep the loved ones at home. There will be live entertainment and refreshments at the event. The Fayette County Issues Tea Party invites the public to its monthly meeting to hear Edward Mitchell, a member of the Board of Trustees of the Islamic Community Center of Atlanta .Mitchell will provide an educational overview of Islam, discuss local Muslims’ contributions to our community, and respond to audience questions. The meeting starts, at 7 p.m. at the Whitewater Creek amenities center (immediate right turn inside the gate), 165 Birkdale Drive in Fayetteville.There is no admission charge.

The Town of Tyrone will host an open house from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at the Tyrone Public Library.  The purpose of the open house will be regarding updates to the Tyrone Town Comprehensive Plan.

U.S. Rep. Lynn Westmoreland will be the guest presenter for the Newnan-Coweta Chamber’s annual Small Business Showcase and Awards Celebration. This year’s event is at The Newnan Centre at 1515 Lower Fayetteville Rd. in Newnan.Presented by SouthTowne and UBS, this event is the Chamber’s annual celebration of Coweta’s small businesses and their many contributions to Coweta’s economic prosperity.The celebration kicks off at 3 p.m. with the Success Showcases in the Exhibit Hall, where Chamber members will have booths with information about their goods and services. A Portraits of Prosperity Panel begins at 4 p.m. and will feature past winners of the Small Business of the Year Awards. At 5 p.m., Small Business of the Year Awards will be announced, a time for honoring all the 2015 nominees and winners. Finally, a Celebration Reception at 6 p.m. concludes the day of honoring Coweta County’s small businesses. Senoia Area Historical Society’s second annual Ice Cream Social is today from 1 to 4 p.m. The public is invited  to join us for free ice cream and watermelon on the grounds of the museum  while you  listen to bluegrass music at its best provided by Line Creek Bluegrass.  We will also be announcing the results of our Structure Repair Campaign during the festivities.SAHS began a Structure Repair Campaign in May and have been thrilled with the response from the community, businesses, and even out-of-town supporters.  The campaign started with an $18,000 goal and an end date of August 29.  SAHS is hoping to meet that goal and begin repairs starting with a new roof.  Donations can still sent to our P.O. The 2015 Golf Fore Kids tournament hosted by Dale Cardwell is today at Eagle’s Landing Country Club in Stockbridge. It is an event organized to benefit The Children’s Village at Christian City. Registration is at 9:30 a.m. followed by an 11 a.m. shotgun start and a 4 p.m. award ceremony and reception. Cost is $125 per player which includes cart, range balls, boxed lunch, refreshments, reception and dinner. Play is under a four-person/Ft. Lauderdale scramble format.There will be an silent auction and many giveaways The main event is the open competition with trophies for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams. There will be a host of skill prizes too, and the traditional “Church Challenge” trophy will go to the top church team. The Peachtree City Police Department will be hosting a Adult Community Emergency Response Team class beginning today. This class will also be to celebrate the 10th year of this very successful program.  The classes will be held each Thursday for 10 weeks concluding on Nov. 12..  The classes will begin at 6:30 p.m. and last until approximately 9 p.m.  This will be a highly informative and interesting learning experience.  The CERT Program will offer valuable insight into the first few critical hours following an emergency related event and how individuals can become empowered to better prepare to sustain themselves and their families.  Additionally, due to this being our 10th anniversary class a special format will be used for this class making it an even more enjoyable experience.  Prospective candidates must be at least (18) years of age and a resident of Georgia.  Applicants will be required to sign a Waiver of Liability form and will be subject to a criminal history background check as a pre-condition to acceptance into the program. Piedmont Fayette Hospital is a Registered Safe Sitter Teaching Site, offering comprehensive babysitting training for young teens (11 and up).  Nationally, more than 600,000 graduates have completed the course and are able to stay home alone safely and handle emergencies when caring for younger children. The up-to-date curriculum provides hands-on practice in lifesaving techniques designed to prepare babysitters to act in an emergency. Babysitters also receive instruction on how a child’s age affects how to care for them, how to prevent problem behavior and how to run their own babysitting business. They also learn basic first aid as well as how to perform infant and child choking rescue and CPR (CPR certification is not obtained during this course). To graduate from the Safe Sitter course and receive a completion card, students must pass a practical and written test that indicates their mastery of key concepts and life and safety skills.    A one-day training course is today from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Piedmont Fayette Hospital, 1279 Medical Building, Conference Room C, 1279 Highway 54 West in Fayetteville. Space is limited and held by registration and payment. The deadline to register is Sept. 1. The fee is $45 and includes the Official Safe Sitter Babysitter’s Handbook and Safe Sitter Bag. The Centre for Performing & Visual Arts, 1523 Lower Fayetteville Road in Newnan, hosts “7 Bridges: The Ultimate Eagles Experience” Saturday, Sept. 19, at 7 p.m. The program is a tribute to the music of the Eagles. Using no backing tracks or harmonizers, 7 Bridges faithfully re-creates the experience of an Eagles concert from the band’s most prolific period.
