Just because it’s fall and the leaves are beginning to turn doesn’t mean you can’t continue to enjoy the bounty from your vegetable gardens.
Robert “Bob” Westerfield, University of Georgia faculty member and state horticulture specialist, will show you how during his talk, “Extending Your Garden into the Fall,” at the August Backyard Association Meeting hosted by the Coweta County Master Gardener Extension Volunteers.
Free and open to the public, the lecture begins at Tuesday, Aug. 11, 7 p.m. at UGA Extension – Coweta County, 255 Pine Road in Newnan.
In his work with UGA, Westerfield, who lives on a farm in Pike County, focuses on vegetables, fruits and small market farming. A former county agent, he has been with UGA for 25 years. Before joining UGA, he worked for a large wholesale nursery as a product specialist. He holds a masters of science degree in agronomy from UGA.
Westerfield frequently appears on national and state gardening shows, including the Georgia Public Television show, “Gardening in Georgia.” He also produces radio spots for the Griffin UGA radio program on horticulture topics.
A regular author of articles in Georgia Gardening magazine and other outdoor magazines, Westerfield has won awards for his gardening news articles and magazine stories. He also lectures and conducts horticulture training for county agents, landscape professionals, farmer groups and consumers.
