The movie musical “Footloose” is coming to life on stage in metro Atlanta for the first time in 15 years.

The Legacy Theatre in Tyrone has put together a cast from all over the country for this special production opening July 10.

Set to the rockin’ rhythm of its Oscar- and Tony-nominated top-40 score and augmented with dynamic new songs for the stage musical, “Footloose” celebrates the wisdom of listening to young people, guiding them with a warm heart and an open mind.

“Footloose” features an all-star cast of young performers as well as some returning Legacy favorites. This production is co-directed by Legacy founders Mark and Bethany Smith, while Mrs. Smith is also choreographing the musical numbers. This is a first for the duo who have been producing theatre together for over a decade.

“We are so excited for ‘Footloose,’” said Bethany Smith. “Our production is family-friendly, fun and heartwarming. Not to mention, our cast is extremely talented. I’m a huge fan of the original film as well as the 2011 remake filmed right here, south of Atlanta. If you love the movies, you’ll definitely love this show.”

“We’ve assembled an excellent cast of young performers for the teen roles,” said Mark Smith. “The music is tough and the dancing is extremely challenging. Bethany and I actually travelled around the U.S. and held auditions in several different cities for these roles.”

Jordan Bollwerk, a rising senior from Elon University, will be starring in the role of Ren, and Ariel will be played by Ball State University’s Allie Richardson. Both will be making their Atlanta theatre debuts.

The musical opens Friday, July 10, and runs until Aug. 2. Performances are Tuesday through Saturday at 7:30 p.m. as well as Saturdays and Sundays at 3 p.m. The updated summer schedule and earlier show time allows families an opportunity to come out on a weeknight and still get home before bedtime.

Tickets are on sale now through the box office at 404-895-1473 and online at www.thelegacytheatre.org. Single tickets are priced at $25 with discounts for seniors and stu-dents. Group rates are available.
