Want a shot at the Olympics in a sport not often seen in Georgia?
USA Bobsled & Skeleton is looking for “the next generation of medalists” through a series of tryouts across the country, including this weekend in Atlanta.
The combine is Saturday, May 16, at 9 a.m. at the Griffin Track, 965 Fowler Street in Atlanta on the campus of Georgia Tech.
Coaches are seeking men who weigh at least 190 pounds and women weighing more than 130 pounds, and the ideal candidates will run 30 meters in under 3.81 (men) or 4.11 (women) seconds.
Competitors will be tested in a variety of sprints as well as the standing broad jump and shot toss. Coaches are looking for athletes who score 450 points or higher. The combine test protocol and scoring table can be found at www.bobsledskeletonrecruiting.com.
Athletes who make the cut could be invited to a recruiting camp at the U.S. Olympics Training Center in Lake Placid, N.Y.
USA Bobsled & Skeleton athletes have won 15 medals in the last four Winter Olympic Games and dozens more in World Cup and World Championship competitions. Historically, the team’s medalists have been mined from other sports.
