A Jonesboro man on April 3 threatened to kill a couple and their child at a gas station on Fayetteville’s east side when they refused to buy marijuana from him. The man was subsequently arrested on numerous charges.
William J. Green, 30, was charged with three counts of aggravated assault and one count each of cruelty to children, felony possession of marijuana, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and convicted felon in possession of a weapon, according to Fayette County Jail records.
Sheriff Barry Babb said the April 3 incident occurred near 9 p.m. when Green approached a couple and their 9-year-old daughter at the Shell gas station at Ga. Highway 54 and McDonough Road.
“He approached them and asked if they wanted to buy some marijuana,” said Babb, adding that the couple declined. “He got aggressive with the dad, pulled a gun and said he would kill them.”
Green soon left the area and the father called 911, said Babb.
A deputy soon located the suspect vehicle a short distance to the east, at Hwy. 54 and Corinth Road. The deputy smelled a strong odor of marijuana and a subsequent search of the vehicle revealed an undisclosed amount of marijuana, digital scales and a 9mm handgun under the driver’s seat, said Babb.
Also arrested was the passenger in Green’s vehicle, 25-year-old Jonesboro resident Xavier Hancock-Blaylockparros on drug violations and possessing drug-related objects, Babb said.
