PTC, petition to get Google Fiber here

As the editors surely know, Google Fiber is coming to Atlanta. However, this 1 gigabyte per second service will not reach as far south as Peachtree City.

Even though Peachtree City is not included in the initial locations for Fiber, we can still petition for it to be included in our city through this website (https://fiber.google.com/other/).

The addition of Google Fiber to this community would be beneficial in numerous instances. Schools, businesses, and city facilities would benefit from higher productivity.

Furthermore, price savings throughout the city could be implemented. Comcast and AT&T charge charge about the same amount monthly for 25 megabytes per second that Google will charge for 1 gigabytes per second.

Alternatively, Google offers a one-time fee service that will provide users with 5MB per second for life for $300. With the extra savings on Internet costs, users of Google Fiber could save $840 a year using the 5MB plan.

This surplus money could be spent on supporting small businesses around the city rather than supporting Baron-like companies like Comcast.

[We] urge readers to sign up for email updates on the above website, even though they are not in the preliminary locations for Fiber. Google has released that it plans on extending its service to locations that show high levels of interest.

Thus, the more email addresses that sign up on the above website, the more likely we are to have Google Fiber implemented in our city.

Chris and I write on behalf of McIntosh High School (where we attend) and the Student Government Association of McIntosh (of which I represent as vice president).
