Fayette Senior Services (FSS) is participating in the 13th annual March for Meals campaign by taking some special visitors on the meal routes so they can see what a difference the program makes to those it serves.

Beginning March 31, FSS will host local business leaders, government officials, and community icons on some of Fayette County’s Meals on Wheels routes to visit with recipients.

As the Meals on Wheels (MOW) operator for Fayette County, FSS is familiar with the struggles that homebound seniors face. “As an organization, we realize the great need for MOW services and understand the tremendous support system that MOW provides”, said Amy Frizell, Business Development manager.

FSS has taken this year’s March for Meals Campaign as an opportunity to raise awareness and be the voice for homebound seniors in Fayette County.

In Georgia alone, the senior population is roughly 16.8 percent of the citizens and of those, 17 percent are struggling with hunger because they are unable to provide themselves with a nutritious meal.

The Meals on Wheels Association of America estimates that Georgia’s program serves nearly 30,000 seniors. FSS Meals On Wheels program delivers over 40,000 meals to homebound seniors in the Fayette County community every year. There is no charge for this service.

Those wanting to help can start by gathering a team from their businesses or a group of friends and family members to deliver. Donations are also greatly appreciated to help offset the costs of operations and to help the effort go even further in serving more homebound seniors.

To find out more information about helping, contact FSS Meals on Wheels Coordinator Natalie Hynson at 770-461-0813 or [email protected].
