Brenda Strickland, nutrition manager at Inman Elementary, is the second recipient of the Cheryl Calhoun Award, established last year by the school system’s nutrition department to recognize the outstanding achievements of school nutrition managers.

The school system’s nutrition staff nominated and voted on the individual they felt was the most qualified for the award. School Nutrition Director Kokeeta Wilder said Strickland best exemplifies reliability, dedication, hard work, and a positive attitude.

Named in honor of the district’s longest serving school nutrition director who lost her battle with cancer in January 2007, the Cheryl Calhoun Award recognizes nutrition managers who exemplify the professional qualities demonstrated by Calhoun: dedication, hard work, and commitment to excellence.

Strickland joins last year’s inaugural winner, Brenda White of Fayette County High School, as a recipient of the elite award.
