Two students brought home awards in the poetry category of the 2015 Griffin RESA Literacy Days Festival, a regional competition that gives students in grades 3-5 and 6-8 an opportunity to perform literacy works in front of peers and attendees from other school systems in the region.

Fourth-grader Bryce Bennett of Inman Elementary took second place in the elementary competition in his grade level; and likewise, Ian Fertig of Rising Starr Middle placed second in the eighth grade level of the middle school competition.

Judges score students on stage presence (eye contact, body language), articulation, interpretation (inflection, gestures), memory/accuracy, difficulty of piece (vocabulary, theme, length), and movement of feet (rules state feet must remain firmly on the ground). Students are given a maximum of six minutes for their recitations, after which, points are deducted for going over the limit.

First through third place winners are named at each grade level, as well as overall winners from both the elementary and middle school competition.

The Griffin RESA Literacy Days Festival is a regional competition among elementary and middle schools in the school systems of Butts, Fayette, Henry, Lamar, Newton, Pike, Spalding, and Upson counties.
