The 2nd Annual Southside STEAM Expo is set for March this year and will be part of the week-long Atlanta Science Festival founded by Emory University, Georgia Tech and the Atlanta Chamber of Commerce.
STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math.
Odyssey Charter School and Coweta County 4-H are partnering together to put on this educational, hands-on youth event to expose students to career fields that utilize skills in the STEAM subject areas. The idea is to present the needed skills in fun, interactive ways through exhibitor booths that have activities for the kids to enjoy as they go through the Expo.
Piedmont Newnan Hospital is an Expo sponsor and exhibitors will include the Savannah College of Art and Design, the University of West Georgia Physics Department, the National Weather Service, Bubbles and Brushes Art Studio, ZooAtlanta, Cochran Mill Nature Center and many others.
The Southside Expo will be held at the Coweta County Fairgrounds on Saturday, March 21.
Exhibitor applications are still available for businesses and organizations that would like to inspire students to become more interested in the STEAM subjects.
All exhibitor booths must include activities that encourage critical thinking and allow participants to build, create or problem solve through some sort of hands-on, interactive activity. March 1 is the deadline to submit an application. A few free and discounted booths are available for non-profits, schools and government agencies.
