U.S. Rep. David Scott (D-District 13) is inviting high school students in his district to enter the Annual Congressional Art Competition, “An Artistic Discovery.”

High school students who reside in or attend a public, private or home school in Georgia’s 13th Congressional District may submit artwork. The district includes parts of Fayette County as well as parts of Fulton, Clayton, Cobb, Douglas and Henry counties.

The competition was created in 1982 as a way to showcase the artistic talents of young people throughout the country.

Scott has awarded over $300,000 in scholarships to student winners in his district.

The first place entry from District 13 will join other first place district winners from around the country and be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year.

Scholarships will be presented to the top winners as follows: $10,000 – first place, $5,000 – second place, and $2,500 – third place, all by the Art Institute of Atlanta; as well as $3,000 year to the first-place winner by the Savannah College of Art and Design.

The competition has no mandatory theme, but does have guidelines that can be obtained from Scott’s office or area art teachers. Deadline for submissions is April 27.

Scott will host an awards ceremony naming this year’s top winners on Saturday, May 9, at the Douglas County Courthouse Art Gallery, located on the third floor of the Douglas County Courthouse at 8700 Hospital Drive, Douglasville. Students must be present at the awards ceremony in order to win
