The Peachtree City Kiwanis Club is having the 24th annual Kiwanis all you can eat pancake breakfast todayy at McIntosh High. Breakfast will be served from 7 a.m. until 1 p.m. The event is the winter social event of the year with great fellowship for the adults and face painting, clowns, and the DARE team to entertain the kids. The cost is $7 in advance and $8 at the door and kids under 4 are free. All the proceeds go to youth activities andprograms in Fayette County.

Master Rosarian, or cultivator of roses, Walt Reed will speak to the South Metro Rose Society this month about soil preparation and the proper techniques for planting new roses either in the ground or in raised beds. Reed is a past president of the group and also a horticulture judge who will explain why proper planting is key to growing quality roses. As usual, master and consulting rosarians will be available to answer questions on any rose topic. Both novice and experts are invited to attend the meeting on Monday, Jan. 26, at 6:30 p.m. at the Heritage Bank at 440 N. Jeff Davis Drive in Fayetteville. For more information, call 678-545-1990.

The Peachtree City Library is hosting a free workshop on “Making the Most of Social Security.” The program is set for today at noon and again at 6:30 p.m. and will be presented by Ray Dunlap of Ray Dunlap Wealth Strategies Group. The one-hour workshop is designed to educate attendees about retirement income-enhancing strategies, with a focus on Social Security. Each attendee will receive a 20 page personalized participant workbook.Those interested in attending the workshop should RSVP by email to jprouty@peachtree-city.org specifying attendance for either the noon or 6:30 p.m. session.
An AARP Drivers Safety Class is today at the Central Library on Literary Lane in Sharpsburg from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The class will refresh your driving skills and review the new rules of the road. You may also save $$$$ on your car insurance!! Costs are $15 for AARP members and $20 for non-member. The class is open to all ages. To register call 770-683-2052.

A “Perennial Plan” is today from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at The Gathering Place in Peachtree City Keeping color in your garden all year can be difficult and sometimes expensive. Jane King, Master Gardener, and Kim Toal, Fayette County Extension Agent, will discuss a calendar of blooming perennials that can be incorporated into the garden for year-round color as well as tips for caring for the plants. Blending the storytelling style of the wildly popular musical “Smoke on the Mountain” with the down home humor of the movie “O Brother, Where Art Thou?,” “Keep on the Sunny Side,” is fun and enriching entertainment for the entire family. Helping tell the family’s story on the Legacy stage will be a group of six talented actor/musicians who have spent the past few weeks delving into the music and heritage of the Carter family.
