Glenn Stringham is retiring from his longtime position as pastor to senior adults at the Fayetteville First Baptist Church.
Stringham has served the church in that position for nearly 19 years and will retire on Jan. 31.
The Stringham family moved to Fayetteville from Hawaii where the pastor was stationed with the U.S. Army and served on staff at the First Southern Baptist Church of Pearl Harbor.
Stringham also served as pastor of Friendship Baptist Church in Jonesboro for 10 years before joining the staff of Fayetteville First Baptist.
During his many years of service, Stringham has led mission ministries to various places both in the United States and overseas and also served the Fayette County community as a whole. He organized and led efforts of the annual “Salute to Veterans” event and also worked with local schools to help families needing assistance at Christmas and Thanksgiving.
Stringham also coordinated the building of ramps for handicapped residents throughout the Fayette County area, and led worship services at LaFayette Nursing Home for more than 18 years, and at Azalea Estates Assisted Living for more than 15 years.
He has served as a volunteer disaster relief first responder and helped rebuild schools in Thailand following the Indonesian Tsunami.
Stringham retired from the Army after more than 22 years. He was drafted in 1966 as a private and retired at the rank of lt. colonel. He served in Vietnam and many other places around the world and also served in many locations in the United States.
Stringham and his wife of 48 years, Phyllis, have three children and 10 grandchildren.
The church is hosting a farewell fellowship in honor of the Stringhams on Jan. 25 at 6 p.m. and invites their community of friends to attend.
