ENCORE is a fast, easy way to learn more about Fayette County and how to get connected.

Participants learn ways to apply their developed skills, abilities and experiences in a wide range of volunteer, service positions.

The next program begins Jan. 22. Tuition is $100 and covers program materials and a continental breakfast and lunch at each session. Topics covered include the history and government of the Fayetteville, Tyrone and Peachtree City, healthcare systems, culture and arts and more.

ENCORE is a Fayette initiative focused on tapping into the senior population.

There are over 15,000 seniors 65-years-old and older in Fayette County and that number is expected to grow to over 45,000 by 2030, according to ENCORE’s website.

The ENCORE Senior Leadership Program was a collaborative effort of the county’s agencies and organizations that either work with seniors or utilize seniors as volunteers, according to its website.

ENCORE, which stands for Retired Leaders Enriching and Nurturing the Community by Offering Resources and Experiences, is an eight-week program designed to provide active, community-spirited, older adults with the opportunity to learn more about their community, including the important issues and challenges they face, identifying the primary community needs and determining how they can become involved by helping shape Fayette’s future.

Since 2009, ENCORE alumni have helped fill the critical need for quality, experienced volunteers among the community’s public and private agencies. The eight-week curriculum, plus two bonus weeks, include meetings with local leaders, visits to community organizations and leadership development exercises.

Each session in this 8 week program is dedicated to local topics that are addressed by public and private sector community leaders.
