Newnan- Coweta Habitat for Humanity, Inc. (NCHFH) partnered with Jack and Jill of Fayette County on various projects Nov.1 to fulfill the mission of building better homes, communities and Hope.
One project the staff and volunteers with Jack and Jill implemented was a Neighborhood Cleanup day in Corn Crib subdivision, one of NCHFH’s target neighborhoods in which it focuses its revitalization efforts.
Neighborhood Revitalization embraces community development and working with all the residents in the neighborhood to recognize the assets and build upon them to strengthen the lives of those within the community. NCHFH seeks to build community Impact and has adopted Success Measures, an outcome evaluation resource for community development.
The project provided a way to engage and encourage residents and other community members to partner together to revitalize the Corn Crib neighborhood.
NCHFH’s Family Services Coordinator, Brandi Newsome, was able to come face to face with a homeowner to discuss and receive her vision for the neighborhood.
NCHFH currently has several homes throughout the neighborhood as well as additional opportunities due to the housing crisis. One concern noted in talking with homeowners in the area has been surrounding the crime such as robbery and unfortunately, a murder just last month. Habitat, the homeowners are looking to reestablish a Neighborhood Watch in the area and partner with local law enforcement to ensure a major factor in Neighborhood Revitalization, safety. NCHFH appreciates the volunteer services of Jack and Jill Fayette Chapter for their partnership in impacting the community. Another project that this group helped with was the start of the internal demolition on a home purchased as a foreclosure. The group of volunteers was able to remove all carpeting and laminate flooring in the home as well as take down the deck. Another group of volunteers with the Jack and Jill of Fayette County helped out at the ReStore.
