Play performance will aid Promise Place

The McIntosh High School drama department will be performing an encore of the one-act play “Five Kinds of Silence” tonight (Nov. 19) at 7 p.m. in the McIntosh Auditorium. Tickets are $5 and can be reserved by emailing [email protected]. Tickets will also be available at the door for $5.

“Five Kinds of Silence” was performed at the regional One Act Competition in October and won first place, with two of the three judges awarding the production perfect scores. Jordan Iacovella was named Best Actor, Emily Bunker was named Best Actress, and Claire Hemenway and Kaylee Lloyd were named to the All-Star Cast.

In “Five Kinds of Silence,” Billy, a violent and troubled man, controls his wife and two daughters through physical, sexual, and psychological abuse. After his death, the three women struggle to make sense of their experiences as Billy continues to haunt their thoughts. Disturbing and thought-provoking, “Five Kinds of Silence” explores the cycle of abuse and the long-lasting effects domestic abuse has upon its victims.

McIntosh is performing “Five Kinds of Silence” to raise awareness of domestic violence. The drama department is partnering with Promise Place, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing emergency shelter, a 24-hour crisis hotline, legal advocacy, community education, and support to victims of domestic abuse. The three shows in October raised over $2,200 for Promise Place. By performing this play, the McIntosh drama program hopes to give voice to a social issue that thrives in silence.
