On Tuesday, Dec. 2, “O Christmas Tea,” will provide a delicious way to support those fleeing from violent relationships at Community Welcome House.

Ballerinas from Peachtree City School of Dance will perform scenes from The Nutcracker. Live music will include caroling from the South Metro Ministries choir and jazz guitar from Matt White. With a silent auction and high tea this evening event for women, themed “A Cold Winter’s Night,” is a holiday favorite. Festivities are from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Platinum Sponsor Flat Creek Country Club in Peachtree City.

Sponsor Elaine Powers, with Powers Heating and Air, tagged her supplier Lennox Industries to contribute.

“When I heard about the fact that mothers who are trying to escape domestic violence are turned away when their sons reach 13 at some shelters,” Powers said. “It made me think about the long term repercussions. As a community, we need to support a safe haven.”

At a nearby secret location, Community Welcome House’s 14 rooms allow a safe place for abused women and their children, including teenage boys, which other shelters often don’t allow, due to state and federal funding guidelines.

This holiday season, the home is being renovated, with improved plumbing, requiring residents to be placed in other facilities.

“It’s never been more important to support Community Welcome House,” said “O Christmas Tea” Chairperson Ellie White-Stevens. “Business women in this community are making sure that the doors will re-open quickly, with a much more functional facility. We are asking for the support of this community.”

Like Powers and White-Stevens, Melissa Orme is a Business Women of Fayette and Coweta Member. An attorney with Orme Law Firm, she represented victims of domestic violence through the Domestic Violence Legal Clinic while she was a student attorney at Northwestern Law in Chicago.

“I have not forgotten the strength, dignity and courage of my clients, or the challenges they overcame to create a better future for themselves and their children,” Orme said. “I am happy to sponsor ‘O Christmas Tea’ and to support Community Welcome House in their mission to enable local women to break the cycle of abuse.”

Real estate closing attorney Lee Mason, who also runs Community Association Management even though he’ll send his staff to attend this event for women. He believes giving is a responsibility of those “that are more fortunate, to help alleviate and bring healing to their hurt.”

Sponsors include Powers Heating & Air, Lennox Ind., Orme Law Firm, Flat Creek Country Club and many more.

Sponsorships and tickets are available until Nov. 21. More information about the business benefits and tickets included in sponsorships are available at www.OChristmasTea.org. For questions contact Ellie White-Stevens at guru@dirt1x.com or 770-301-8706.
