More histrionics from Learnard

Tax revenue funds everything from the Sheriff’s Department and our judiciary system to schools and water treatment.

Since the commissioners and Board of Education are responsible for approving budgets that support those activities, it seems most appropriate that the Development Authority would at least advise them of a deal that has a major impact on their revenue projections … in this case, a glaring 20-year impact.

Per last week’s front-page Citizen story, though, the Development Authority didn’t advise the commission, even after the county had specifically asked them to. Ditto with the Board of Education.

It certainly appears as though some changes to the appointed Development Authority board were in order, and the commissioners made some.

That sounds like a reasonable response to restore accountability, but in the same Citizen story, a PTC councilwoman labeled the changes the result of a “one-man wrecking crew.”

After last November’s elections, I thought we were done with PTC government’s histrionics. We may be in for even more of them.

I hope they don’t drive off the people and businesses we need to grow and further improve our schools and quality of life.
