The intuition of a sheriff’s deputy on a routine traffic stop March 2 led to the arrest of two men for stealing mail from the Peachtree City Post Office, according to Fayette County Sheriff Barry Babb.
The two men were pulled over on Ga. Highway 54 near the post office, and the deputy noticed that the duo was acting suspicious, Babb said. Deputies later found the stolen mail inside the vehicle, “preventing countless financial crimes,” Babb said.
The stolen mail contained financial information that could have been used to commit identity fraud, Babb said.
Babb identified the suspects as Antonio Sinkfield, 24, of College Park and Paul Riley, 24, of Austell.
As of Tuesday afternoon, both Sinkfield and Riley remained in the Fayette County Jail as they had not yet posted bond.
The case is being investigated by the U.S. Postal Inspectors Office and the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office.
