Three local boys’ teams prevailed in their first-round state basketball tournament games Saturday.
In AAAAA, the McIntosh Chiefs won at home 69-53 over Lakeside-Evans 53 to move into the round of 16. Their next game is on the road at Northside-Columbus, who beat Richmond Hill 75-63.
The Whitewater Wildcats saw their season come to an end in Warner Robins, where they fell 60-47.
In AAAA, the Sandy Creek Patriots downed Dalton 67-40 to earn a second-round game on the road against Johnson-Gainesville, who won 83-71 over Stone Mountain.
The Fayette County Tigers took down Gilmer County 76-55 and will play next at Columbia, who defeated Lumpkin County 63-20.
In the first round of the Class A Private tournament, which is a 16-team field, Landmark will host Aquinas Tuesday night, with a win leading to either a road game at Athens Christian or a home game against Providence.
The lone girls’ game of note Saturday was the last of the season for the Sandy Creek Lady Patriots, who lost 55-44 to River Ridge.
