The Sandy Creek High School Choral Department has rescheduled the 2014 Miss Sandy Creek Pageant after inclement weather forced the original pageant to be cancelled. The pageant is today at 7:30 p.m. at Sandy Creek High School in Tyrone. Doors will open at 7 p.m. Tickets may be purchased in advance for $7 Feb. 21, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. in the SCHS cafeteria, or for $10 at the door. The pageant is the most important fundraiser of the year for SCHS choral programs. Contestants will compete for prizes and scholarship money. Scoring of the pageant has three components: teacher recommendations, an interview with the judges, and the evening gown presentation. The first two components are scored prior to Saturday evening’s pageant.
During the pageant, a song from SCHS’s upcoming spring musical, “Once Upon a Mattress,” will be performed by the cast of the show. In addition, several young men from the SCHS Chorus will provide entertainment with a men’s formalwear presentation.
The SCHS Choral Department invites the community to support the school’s choral programs during an evening that celebrates some of the outstanding young women of SCHS.

A Company of Friends Theatrical Productions is holding open auditions for their spring musical, Disney’s “Peter Pan, Jr.” today and Feb. 24 for performers ages seven through 21 years of age. This Disney classic features a large cast of over 30 performers and has many roles for both males and females. Auditions will consist of a simple taught dance and song and cold readings from the script. Auditions will be held at the Fayetteville Train Depot in Fayetteville, right off the square. Schedule breakdown for auditions is Sunday at 5 p.m. for ages 7 to 9 years, 6:30 p.m. for ages 10 to 13 years and February 24 for ages 14 to 21 years and then call-backs for all ages at 7 p.m. for all ages. Performances will be April 23-27 with no rehearsals over spring break. ACOF does require a production fee from all who are cast in shows. The fee for Peter Pan is $95 and covers all costumes and personal props. Fee can be covered by purchasing ads for the program or paying by check on the first rehearsal. There is a 20 percent discount for family members who are cast together.

The South Metro Rose Society will meet at 6:30 p.m. at the Heritage Bank at 440 N. Jeff Davis Drive in Fayetteville. All rose growers from novice to expert are invited to attend free of charge. This month’s program features Clayton Beaty, owner of Beaty Fertilizer, Inc. of Cleveland, Tennessee. Educated at Tennessee Tech, Mr. Beaty started his fertilizer business in the late 70s and in the mid 80s developed Mills Magic Rose Mix, a blend of 8 eight different organics that roses thrive on and is sold internationally. Beaty Fertilizer also carries many other types of fertilizers and gardening products. Beaty will speak to the club on a variety of topics which will include amending our soil to produce the best roses and his trip in Feb. 2013 to see the rose gardens of China. He will also introduce us to some of the latest rose growing products offered by Beaty Fertilizer. Please join us for this interesting and informative program. Promise Place is hosting its first ever Improv Comedy night tonight at 6:30 p.m. titled “Promise You’ll Laugh”. The event is at the Legacy Theatre in Tyrone. A professional improvisational group from Atlanta will entertain the audience with 100 percent of the proceeds directly benefitting Promise Place. The Southern Crescent Chorale will make their ninth appearance at Spivey Hall at 8 p.m. The concert entitled “Psalms, Hymns and Spiritual Songs” will feature many choral favorites including Wilberg’s “Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing, “Thompson’s “Alleluia,” Christiansen’s “Psalm 50” and a large number of spirituals including Moses Hogan’s “I Can Tell the World,” “We Shall Walk Through the Valley in Peace,” and “Wade in the Water.” Other favorite spirituals include “My God Is A Rock,” “Ain’t Got Time to Die,” “Deep River,” and Ezekiel “Saw duh Wheel.”This concert will be presented in memory of Dr. Amy Adele Foster, gifted performer, educator and former accompanist for the Chorale. Robert J. Burch Elementary will be having its fourth annual Burch Bear Tracks today at 8 a.m. and includes Tot Trot, Mile Fun Run, and a 5K race. The primary goal for this event is to promote health and wellness through fitness as well as raise money for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) in their effort to find a cure for Type 1 Diabetes. The secondary goal is to fund Burch’s running club in which hundreds of students participate.
