The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a number of burglaries that occurred in north Fayette during October.
“In the month of October, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office has responded to several burglaries in the northern half of Fayette County. A total of 14 burglaries have been reported and are being investigated by sheriff’s detectives,” said Sheriff Barry Babb.
Babb said the burglaries have been occurring during the daylight hours and mostly on weekdays when people are away at work.
“We’ve stepped up patrols in the area and have committed a significant portion of our agency to specialized patrols,” Babb said. “Homeowners are encouraged to be vigilant and look out for each other. If you see a vehicle that looks out of place or if you see any sort of suspicious activity, we want to know about it.”
Babb said that while unincorporated areas are currently experiencing a spike in burglaries, statistics for the first half of 2013 showed that burglaries had decreased significantly over the same time last year.
Confirmed burglaries for the first six months of 2012 totaled 81 while the same period this year tallied 62 burglaries, a decrease of approximately 25 percent.
