With more than 150 members, the Sandy Creek High SkillsUSA Chapter is the second largest in the state, and was recognized at the Georgia SkillsUSA Fall Leadership Conference with a membership award.
The SkillsUSA annual Fall Leadership Conference is held to train students and teachers in leadership skills that will allow them to go back to their school and lead their local chapters through a successful year. Students participate in sessions that guide them in developing team building, public speaking, and communication and community service skills.
During the conference, students have the opportunity to earn the Georgia Statesman Award and the new Distinguished Statesman Award.
The Statesman Award measures students’ knowledge of the SkillsUSA organization. Statesman Award winners are Jade Ponder, Madisyn Epps-Johnson, Carlisle Vidourek, and Sian Truesdale.
The Distinguished Statesman Award, new this year, tests students’ knowledge about the state’s Career, Technical and Agricultural Education (CTAE) program. Students must earn the Statesman Award before they are eligible for the Distinguished Statesman Award. Distinguished Statesman Award winners are Shelton Leonard, Xena Diaz and Saridh Galvan.
Earning the Distinguished Statesman Award was extra special for the Sandy Creek Chapter since one of their own members, Carlisle Vidourek, created the newly minted pin that each received in honor of their achievement.
The Georgia SkillsUSA six state officers plan the conference. Among them is Sandy Creek’s chapter president, Macie Giordano, who also serves as the SkillsUSA Georgia State Reporter.
Special recognition was given during the closing session to Keri Davis who won a bronze medal at the National Leadership and Skills Conference for Prepared Speech, and to Carlisle Vidourek for her pin design for the Distinguished Statesman Award.
