A Fayetteville woman was arrested at a Sept. 7 traffic stop and faces multiple charges for burglary and drug and weapons possession.

Sheriff Barry Babb said 35-year-old Ashley K. McElwaney was arrested on Sept. 7 after a traffic stop on Lester Road near the Waterlace subdivision.

“A search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of multiple items taken from recent burglaries,” Babb said. “The vehicle McElwaney was in contained several tools that are commonly used in burglaries. In addition to the tools, deputies located ceiling fans, window blinds, lighting fixtures, framed mirrors, and other housing construction items.”

Babb said deputies were able to match the items in the vehicle to several burglaries at houses under construction. The items were returned to the rightful owner, Babb added.

McElwaney was also charged with two burglaries, possession of a .45-caliber handgun, possession of suspected methamphetamine and prescription drugs in improper containers.
