Landmark downs Athens Christian 26-7

The Landmark War Eagles are off to a 2-0 start with two road wins, the most recent a 26-7 victory over Athens Christian last Friday night.
The home team got on the board first, but Stockton McGuire’s 39-yard touchdown pass tied it up. After a second-quarter interception by Lofton Tidwell that was returned 65 yards for a score, the War Eagles never trailed again.

McGuire threw a touchdown pass to Sam Dobbs in the third quarter and Nolan Bryant scored on a 32-yard run to put the game out of reach.
Landmark racked up 293 rushing yards, 120 of them by Darius Smith. The War Eagle defense forced four turnovers, including an interception by D.J. Brown and fumble recoveries by Joshua Cobb and William Higbie. Titus Creamer had 11 tackles, while Will Yancey contributed six tackles – two for losses – and a sack.

The War Eagles host Wilkinson County this Friday in their first home game of the season.

Starr’s Mill loses at N. Cobb 48-7

The Starr’s Mill Panthers picked an exceptional tough opponent to open their 2013 season, going north to face one of the top-ranked AAAAAA teams in the state.
It was a long ride back, as North Cobb came away with a 48-7 win.

The only scoring for the Panthers came on their opening drive of the third quarter, on a long touchdown run by John Smith. Quarterback Kyle Moseley led the drive after sitting out the first half and completed 5 of 6 passes to move the team down the field.

North Cobb lost to Lovejoy in last year’s AAAAAA state semifinals and are ranked near the top this year.
Starr’s Mill is back in action this Friday at home against Fayette County.

OLM falls 40-7 to Mt. Paran

The Our Lady of Mercy Bobcats dropped their first game of the 2013 season, 40-7 to Mt. Paran,

The only scoring for the Bobcats came late in the third quarter when Christian Coleman returned a kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown.
The team will be off this weekend, returning to action Sept. 13 at Mt. Pisgah.
