Peachtree City’s parade honoring Peachtree City’s Vietnam Veterans is today at 9 a.m. In honor of the 40th Anniversary of the last combat troops leaving Vietnam in 1973, Peachtree City’s July 4 Parade this year features a special tribute to our Vietnam veterans. If you have a Vietnam Veteran in your family and would like to enter a decorated golf cart for them to ride in on the fourth, please note that this is for a Vietnam Veteran when you register. All carts for Vietnam Veterans will be grouped together at the start of the parade. If you are a Peachtree City resident who served in Vietnam and do not have a cart available but would like to participate, please email info@peachtree-city.org. If you have a red, white, or blue golf cart you would be willing to lend for this event (Peachtree City registration not required), or would like to help in some other way, please email John Stern at info@johnsgolfcars.com.
The Annual Let Freedom Ring ceremony is today on the grounds of the old Fayette County Courthouse. The ceremony is at 2 p.m. The short 20 minute program will honor the men who signed the Declaration of Independence with each state’s name and the names of the men from that state who signed the Declaration.
As each state and the signor’s name is read, a bell will be rung in recognition. The Marquis de Lafayette Chapter Sons of the American Revolution will provide a color guard that will post the colors and provide a musket salute. The Button Gwinnett Society Children of the American Revolution will participate as well.You will need to bring a lawn chair for seating. Newnan celebrates the holiday with its traditional July 4 fireworks show and parade. The show is presented by the Newnan Rotary Club at Newnan High School’s Drake Stadium, immediately following the parade. The parade rolls through the streets of Newnan at 6 p.m.

Guest speaker for the evening will be Doug Mabry, Carroll County historian who will give a power point presentation on the effect the Treaty of Indian Springs in 1825 had on the nation. He has a degree in history from Mercer University and in anthropology from the University of West Georgia. He also won the state’s highest award for historic preservation. “Annie, Kids” musical is today. This production is a shorter version of the original Broadway show designed for youth performers with adapted score and scenes to make it easier for younger voices and actors. The Fayette County Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring a hitting and base running baseball clinic today from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at Kiwanis Park Field No. 7.
