A golf cart crash that seriously injured a Starr’s Mill High School student May 9 has resulted in charges being filed against both the driver and the owner of the golf cart.
The juvenile driver was charged with reckless driving and underage operation of a golf cart, police said. The juvenile’s mother, Leticia Hernandez-Garcia, was cited with allowing underage operation of a golf cart and failure to transfer golf cart registration, police said.
The crash resulted in a serious head injury for Janice Dominguez, who was flown to Atlanta Medical Center where he was kept heavily sedated and needed a hole drilled in her skull to reduce swelling.
A fund has been started to help defray the Dominguez family’s medical costs as Janice moves to the rehabilitation phase of her recovery. Donations may be made at any Wells Fargo Bank to the “Janice Dominguez Benefit Donation Fund.”
The crash happened when the cart driver lost control as it approached Masters Drive north, police said. The collision caused Janice to be ejected from the cart and she was struck on the head, police said.
