Once again, it’s that time of year when we get the long-awaited answer to “Who’s coming to the amphitheater in Fayetteville this year?”
The Southern Ground Amphitheater’s 2013 Summer Concert Series continues the amphitheater’s long-standing tradition of bringing great entertainers at an affordable price, at the most comfortable outdoor venue in the region, according to Brian Wismer, amphitheater manager and Community Development director for the City of Fayetteville.
“We are very excited about the mix of music scheduled for this year and hope that the patrons are as well. The Southern Ground Amphitheater strives to be a cool place that provides a wonderful outlet for our residents to come out and have fun with friends and music. Also stay tuned for future announcements of other amphitheater events later this year,” Wismer said.
Kicking off the season on Friday, June 7 is a mainstay on country music radio, Vince Gill. Vince is a highly acclaimed and diverse country artist who was also seen hosting the CMA awards show for 12 consecutive years. Over the last 25 years, he has had multiple platinum albums and Top Ten singles. Vince will be singing many of those greatest hits that night including, “The Reason Why,” “The Next Big Thing,” and “I Still Believe in You.”
On June 15, Southern Ground welcomes R&B greats, The Spinners. Since 1972, the precision vocals and equally impressive choreography of The Spinners have captivated audiences worldwide. Throughout the years they have acquired 12 gold records with hits on top of both Pop and R&B charts and they are one of the few groups who can boast of four lead singers. Some of the great songs from those classic records include “I’ll Be Around,” “Rubberband Man,” and “Workin’ My Way Back to You.”
On July 13, Southern Ground hosts an evening of fun and dancing through the 1960s and ‘70s era with an energetic “double shot” of The Swingin’ Medallions, followed by Wet Willie. The Medallions are no strangers to Fayetteville, and are excited to make their return this summer to Southern Ground. Wet Willie will keep the party going with their potent mix of high energy R&B, downhome soul, blues and gospel harmonies. Wet Willie hit the charts in the ‘70s with “Keep On Smilin,” “Street Corner Serenade,” and “Weekend.”
Next on July 27 will be a night for the classic rock crowd, as Southern Ground welcomes the classic Canadian rockers, The Guess Who. Between 1968 and 1975, The Guess Who had numerous Top 40 hits, including “These Eyes,” “No Sugar Tonight,” and the 1970s rock anthem, “American Woman.” In all, the group has 14 top 40 hits to their credit.
Finishing out the series is the classic American pop and country duo, The Bellamy Brothers. On Aug. 17, they will treat fans to a staple of over 14 number one hit songs from the ‘70s and ‘80s. The Bellamy Brothers strong melodies and critical accolades keep them consistently touring to growing audiences worldwide. Some of their many classic hits include “Let Your Love Flow,” “Sugar Daddy,” and “Redneck Girl.”
Again this year, ticket prices are being kept as low as possible to allow everybody an opportunity to attend.
Series tickets now start at $82 (plus tax) for general admission lawn seats and $125 (plus tax) for reserved seats. The new, wider seating arrangement continues to be a success, and patrons can look forward again to enjoying summer evenings with the most spacious seating and leg room not found at any other venue in the region.
Series ticket renewals are currently in progress. New series tickets will be available to the general public beginning March 1.
Tickets to individual concerts will go on sale April 2, and range from $15 to $65. Tables for eight are available in the orchestra pit, and special tables are sold in the boxes of the tiered section.
