The owner of a new medical office built on Ga. Highway 54 east just outside the Peachtree City limits is asking for the 4.4-acre site to be annexed by the City Council.

Thursday night, council will consider whether to allow staff to work with the property owner, Foot Pain LLC, on the proposal.

The site is the original home office of Ankle and Foot Centers of Georgia and podiatrists Dr. Joseph Giovinco and Dr. Gregory Alvarez. Founded in 1982, the company now has 18 locations around the Atlanta metro area.

The city’s annexation regulations require permission from council before such a proposal may be formally vetted by city staff. If council agrees, that process would occur and the information would be presented to council for a final yes or no decision on the annexation at a later date.

The parcel is located directly off Ga. Highway 54 East and is contiguous to the city limits at the rear where it abuts Sumner Road and several homes.

The site is also abutted to the west by a parcel that is currently in the unincorporated county as well. So if the Foot Pain parcel is ultimately annexed, it would leave several other parcels in unincorporated Fayette County subsequently sandwiched by city land.

According to county tax records, the Foot Pain parcel and its 46,000 sq. ft. office building are valued at $2.37 million. If it were to be annexed, it would receive city services such as public safety and the like while the city would also receive property tax revenue for the parcel.

In its application to have the annexation considered by the city, Foot Pain LLC representatives give no direct explanation for the reasoning behind the request.

The site is currently zoned commercial as a part of the unincorporated county. If annexed, the property owner wants it rezoned for office use.

A decision on whether or not to consider the rezoning is expected during the council meeting, which begins at 7 p.m. Thursday at City Hall.
