In a unique way, community leaders, artists, sponsors and volunteers are coming together to support Christian City’s ministry to abandoned and abused children by hosting the sixth annual Chair-ity Event at The Atlanta Dolce in Peachtree City. All proceeds help the children who live in the cottages on their campus in Union City to have a wonderful holiday season and will help buffer the many other operational costs The Children’s Village faces this winter. Tickets are $20 and include delicious fare and holiday cheer provided by The Atlanta Dolce. Paige McCauley of Peachtree City will provide the musical entertainment and Santa and his elf will be on hand for photo opportunities.
Over 20 artists including Vicki Turner, Cress Chance, Fiona Dennis, and Janet McGregor Dunn have painted festive and beautiful chairs which will be auctioned off in a “Santa’s Workshop” silent auction along with many other items donated by local businesses. It is the perfect place to pick up Christmas gifts, most of which are already beautifully wrapped and ready for gift giving.
The hosts which include Congressman Lynn Westmoreland and his wife Joan, who have sponsored children at The Children’s Village for many years, are inviting all who have a heart for children to drop in between 5:30-7:30 p.m. to support this great and very worthy cause.
“I am always so impressed and humbled by the hard work of the volunteer committee. Some members such as Janet McGregor Dunn and Angela Bean, have been on the committee since the event’s inception in 2007. Others are excited to be helping for the first time. Because of their dedication to our kids, The Children’s Village has benefitted not only financially at a time we need it most, but also by a tremendous amount of good will, and awareness of the needs of the children we serve,” remarked Heidi Becker, Director of Marketing and Development at Christian City. “There is no way we could provide for our children this Christmas, if it weren’t for the generosity of the community.”
As an additional fundraiser for the kids, the Kiwanis Club of McIntosh Trail in Peachtree City is holding a drawing for a 1968 Mustang GT Convertible being held at the Chair-ity event. Tickets are $100 and only 250 will be sold. Everyone who purchases a Mustang ticket will receive free entry into the Chair-ity Event. You do not need to be present to win. Christian City opened the first cottage on Valentine’s Day, 1965 to eight little boys needing a safe place to live. Boys and girls ages 6 to 18 live in cottages with full time Christian house parents who give them all the love and care needed for success. Children come to Christian City after dealing with situations of life crisis, such as the death of a parent, divorce, or sexual, physical, and emotional abuse.
