Hopewell to host bonfire after game
Hopewell United Methodist Church will host a 5th Quarter Bonfire after the Sandy Creek homecoming game on Oct. 12. The community is welcome to come after the game and enjoy music with DJ Kevin Stallings, games, prizes, marshmallow roasting, and snacks. Hopewell is  at 351 Jenkins Rd. in Tyrone, directly across from Sandy Creek High. Call the church, 770-306-7537, for more information.

Sharpsburg Baptist plans Chicken-Q, Fair
Sharpsburg Baptist Church will host a Chicken-Q/Bake Sale/Fair, Saturday, Oct. 13, at the church on Ga. Highway 54.  Tickets are $8 each and are available at the church office, 770-251-6963 or olivebranchladies@gmail.com. Food will be served from 11a.m. -12:30 p.m. to ticket holders. Food will be served to walk-ups until 2 p.m. or while food lasts. Vendor spaces for selling crafts, gently used clothing and other goods from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. (tables not provided) are available for a $15 donation. Brooks UMC will offer ballroom dancing
Beginning this month, Brooks United Methodist Church will host ballroom dancing classes on Saturday evenings at 7 p.m. The classes are  $35 per person per month. Brooks UMC is located at 119 Morgan Mill Road,  on the Ga. Highway 85 Connector, three miles south of Starr’s Mill. For more information call the church office, 770-719-7593.

NHBC plans fall festival, car show Oct. 27
National Heights Baptist Church will host its Fall Festival and Car Show, Saturday, Oct. 27, from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at the church. The event features an antique car show, trunk or treat, bounce house, games, crafts, food and fun for the whole family. Greek pastries orders due by Nov. 2
The annual holiday Greek Pastry Sale for Philoptochos (Friends of the Poor) of St. Christopher Hellenic Orthodox Church is now taking place. Pastries include Spanakopita (buttery filo triangles of spinach, feta, cream cheese, eggs and onions), Tiropita (buttery filo triangles of feta, cream cheese, eggs, and onions) and desserts: baklava, kourambiedes, koulouria and melamakarona. Bethany’s annual Perlieu stew coming up
Bethany United Methodist Church will have its annual Perlieu Stew sale Saturday, Nov. 3, from noon until 5 p.m. (or until the stew is sold out). Adult plates are $8 and children’s plates are $5. Pints of stew are $6 and quarts are $10. Making the stew dates back to the early 1900s when the men of the church went hunting and brought back wild game. Today chicken is used instead of game but the stew is still made in large iron cauldrons. Bethany is at 607 Rivers Rd. (where Milam changes to Rivers and crosses Lees’ Lake Road)in north Fayette County.

Summit offers free tutoring
The Family Resource Center at The Summit Presbyterian Church offers free tutoring for elementary and high school students. Classes meet on Wednesdays, one from 4-5 p.m. and another from 5-6 p.m. Help is offered in math, reading, homework, science, and language arts. Tutors are supervised by certified teachers.
