Mr. Grady Matthews, 75, of Fayetteville passed away on August 3, 2012. He was born on January 26, 1937 in Gardner, Fla.

His family was the most important thing to him in life. Mr. Matthews graduated from Meriwether High School in Woodbury, Ga. in 1954, where he competed in baseball, basketball, track and chorus. He then attended North Georgia Military College. Mr. Matthews’ profession was a barber where he owned Plaza Barber Shop in Riverdale, Ga. with brother, Gerald Matthews for over 45 years.

He was preceded in death by his son, Walter Matthews and daughter, Vicki Matthews Stancil; parents, Edward James Matthews and Bessie Ellen ‘Big Ma’ Partin Matthews; brother, Earl Matthews and sisters, Christine Matthews Pearson and Karen Matthews Warner.

He is survived by his wife, Myrtice Matthews; sons, Jeff Matthews (Karen) of Brooks, Michael Burchfield ( Cheryl) of Sharpsburg, Doug Matthews (Vicky) of Woodbury; daughters, Cindy Williams (Bill) of Fayetteville and Samantha Barnett (Ricky) of Senoia; 15 grandchildren, Danny Williams, Traci Proulx, Tommy Proulx, Shay Milner, Jeffery Milner, Joshua Matthews, Jeremy Matthews, Daryl Matthews, Lyndsey Matthews, Melissa Israel, Sean Israel, Payton Burchfield, Tara Allen, Rayne Allen and Matthew Allen; 7 great-grandchildren, T. J. Proulx, Brianna Proulx, Sarah Proulx, Trevor Proulx, Hunter Milner, Landon Milner and Jensen Israel; brothers, Buddy Matthews and Gerald Matthews; and sister, Wyvette Matthews Cox.

A funeral service was held on Monday, August 6, 2012 at 12 p.m. at the Chapel of Mowell Funeral Home, Fayetteville. Reverend Don Gibbs officiated. A short service and burial followed at Woodbury Cemetery, Woodbury, Ga. The family received friends on Sunday from 2to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
