Georgia Electric Membership Corp. (GEMC), a statewide electric membership cooperative (EMC) trade association, recently elected former educator and local businesswoman Alice Mallory chairperson of the 2012 GEMC board of directors.
Chairperson Mallory is the president of Mallory Aviation, Inc. in Fayette County and currently serves on the board of directors of Coweta-Fayette EMC.
Her involvement in and support of Fayette County spans decades and includes noted work with the Fayette County Chamber of Commerce, Leadership Fayette, Friends of Fayette County Library, March of Dimes, Alzheimer’s Association, Daughters of the American Revolution and Women in Aviation, to name a few.
As a former educator, Mallory is active in a number of teachers’ associations and has been honored by such groups as the Retired Educators Association and Kappa Kappa Iota. She was also named former Teacher of the Year by Fayette County Schools.
Mallory graduated with a bachelor’s degree in education from Auburn University and a master’s from West Georgia College. She serves on a number of committees and volunteers for a variety of assignments in support of the Auburn Alumni Association.
An active member of First United Methodist Church in Fayetteville, Mallory has served as past president of the Charity Circle, former Sunday School teacher for special needs classes, Bible School volunteer and member of the Financial and Council committees.
Georgia EMC is a statewide trade association representing the state’s 42 EMCs, Oglethorpe Power Corp., Georgia Transmission Corp. and Georgia System Operations Corp. Through this network, the 42 customer-owned EMCs provide electricity and related services to more than four million people, nearly half of Georgia’s population, across 73 percent of the state’s land area.
Coweta-Fayette EMC is a consumer-owned cooperative providing electricity and related services to over 74,000 member accounts in Coweta, Fayette, Heard, South Fulton, Clayton, Spalding, Troup and Meriwether Counties.
