Long-time Tyrone spa, pool and whirlpool supplier Custom Molded Products (CMP) will soon be transitioning its distribution facility to the Shenandoah Industrial Park in Newnan. The new facility will more than double the size of the company’s Tyrone location.
CMP has purchased the former Rite Aid distribution center in the Shenandoah Industrial Park on Herring Road. Commenting on the choice at Shenandoah, co-owner William Drury said CMP looked at a number of properties in Fayette and Coweta counties to meet the company’s needs.
“Fayette has been good to us and it was our first choice,” Drury said.
Many of CMP’s employees live in Fayette and the company likes the Fayette area, Drury said, adding that the long-time Tyrone company has essentially outgrown the 110,000 square-foot distribution facility.
“We were looking for suitable property in Fayette and Coweta,” Drury said of the need to acquire additional space. “And the Coweta location was the best opportunity in terms of size, location and price. We needed more office, warehouse and parking space.”
The move to Coweta in the coming months affords 240,000 square feet of distribution space. That space will be needed since the company has been seeing an uptick in business that began last year, said Drury.
Drury said the new location would provide the potential for adding a production line sometime in the future. The company’s backyard recreational equipment such as pool, whirlpool and spa products are currently manufactured in China, according to the company’s website. For distribution, CMP has the Tyrone center and another in Ontario, Calif.
The company currently employs more than 50 people. Drury said he anticipates being able to add another 10 positions over the next year with the expectation that increases in business could lead to additional hires.
CMP will hold on to the Tyrone facility for possible future expansion.
“We are very pleased to welcome CMP to Coweta County,” said Coweta County Development Authority President Greg Wright. “The company has been a fixture in the south metro region for over 20 years and the expansion into Coweta County will provide great jobs in our county.”
