There have been 22 cases of graffiti identified by police across a large area of Peachtree City since the beginning of the year. The graffiti has shown up on signs and various structures and has taken the form of a wide range of “artwork.” Police investigators are reviewing the cases to determine if there is any connection between them.
Information provided by Peachtree City Police spokesperson Rosanna Dove shows 22 cases from Jan. 3 through March 6. Those cases span a large portion of the city, with graffiti found in area ranging from Kedron Drive to Crosstown Court, from Commerce Drive to Smokerise Plantation and from Huddleston Road to Montclair Drive.
“It’s spread out and appears to be random in nature,” Dove said Thursday, adding that officers do not currently know how many people are involved. “Not only is the graffiti unsightly, but it also has a tremendous economic impact on our city. Each incident requires officers to respond and investigate the crime. Additionally, Public
Works staff then must purchase materials, and repaint or resurface the affected area.”
As for the graffiti itself, Dove said it also takes a variety of forms. Many of those include names, other words, symbols or quotes. Some of the words and symbols are of a derogatory nature, Dove added.
Dove said investigators are attempting to determine if there is a connection between specific individuals or groups and the words, names or symbols being used.
The department is offering a reward of up to $500 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.
