Fayette Youth Protection Homes announces Power Parade winners

The 21st annual Fayette Youth Power Parade was held in all 17 Fayette County elementary schools the week of November 7 – 11, 2011.  The Power Parade offers Fayette County school children the unique opportunity to reach out to children in need who are their own age and live in their own community.  The Fall 2011 Power Parade brought in $16,878.08 for

Fayette County children who have been the victims of abuse or neglect. Peeples Elementary raised the most money in the county, $3,638.43. Kedron Elementary came in a close second place and raised $2,513.25. All proceeds benefit Fayette Youth Protection Homes, a local, non-profit organization which operates a residential group home for school-age children who have been removed from their homes due to abuse or neglect.

Bray Taylor, a 2nd grader at Kedron Elementary school raised $1,165.00, Bray won the Grand Prize; a trip for 4 to the Disney World. This is the second year in a row that Bray has won the Power Parade’s top prize.  Aiden Monsour, a Kindergartner from Tyrone Elementary school earned the county’s second place award by raising $795.00.  Aiden won a Nintendo Wii Game System.  Kalies Madison, a second grader from North Fayette Elementary school came in a close third place.  Kalies  raised  $720.00, and won a $100 Toys R US gift card.

When asked why the Power Parade is so important to the Fayette Youth Protection Homes, Executive Director, Becky Davenport said, “For over 20 years, Fayette County School children have participated in the Power Parade, and we are so grateful for the support of the children, their parents, and everyone in the Fayette County School System.”
