The Coweta County Sheriff’s Office is the investigating the discovery of a human skull and a large number of bones found July 5 by a surveyor working on the east side of Trinity Fellowship Church just south of Ga. Highway 54 East near Line Creek and Peachtree City.

A surveyor doing work for the church discovered the remains at approximately 1 p.m. on July 5, according to Maj. James Yarbrough. Once alerted, sheriff’s investigators arrived and began the process of excavating the area, Yarbrough said. That process revealed a majority of the skeletal remains of a adult along with the skull previously found by the surveyor, said Yarbrough, adding that some clothing and other articles were found during the search.

Yarbrough said investigators as a result of the discovery are following up on old missing persons cases.

The area being surveyed is situated to the east of the church campus and is essentially a wooded area to the south of Hwy. 54, across from Wynn’s Pond Road to the north and approximately 2,000 feet from Line Creek and Peachtree City.

Evidence discovered during the search has been forwarded to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab for analysis, Yarbrough said.
