Family Circle magazine has named Peachtree City the second-best family town in America.

The magazine has graced the city and nine others with a spot on its “10 best towns for families” list this year. The top factors considered were “top-notch schools, affordable housing, green space and giving spirit,” according to the Family Circle web site.

In addition to a brief citation of the city’s calling card, the golf cart paths, the magazine also gave a shout-out to the recent city cleanup efforts in May. Nearly 400 volunteers picked up trash along the cart path system, the magazine noted.

Mayor Don Haddix said the recognition was a “fabulous” honor for the city.

“This is a really, really great honor for the city, a recognition that we are very community-oriented, very family-oriented and just a downright good place to live,” Haddix said.

The city’s blurb is contained in the August edition of Family Circle, and the city’s Convention and Visitors Bureau will be working to capitalize on the accolade, Haddix said.

The bureau brings a number of special events to the city from sports tournaments to family reunions and other social events, many of which are youth-oriented, Haddix noted.
City spokesperson Betsy Tyler also issued a thanks to the various “volunteers, civic groups and citizens who make this such a great community.”
