LongHorn Steakhouse has announced the groundbreaking of its first restaurant in Fayetteville, joining the long-time restaurant in Peachtree City.

LongHorn anticipates that the new restaurant will open in November 2011 and will begin seeking job applicants in October 2011. This will be LongHorn’s 42nd location in the greater Atlanta metropolitan area.

The chain, which operates more than 350 restaurants and employs 18,000 people, expects to hire team members from the surrounding community.

Best known for its atmosphere and flavor of the American West, the new LongHorn will be located at 1320 Highway 85 North in Fayetteville. The 6,200 square-foot restaurant will employ up to 85 team members and seat more than 240 guests.

“LongHorn is proud to be of service in communities across Georgia and we are pleased to be opening our new location in Fayetteville,” said John Alexander, senior vice president of operations for LongHorn. “In these tough economic times, we are confident that our creation of new jobs and tradition of community service will add value to the city of Fayetteville.”

LongHorn opened its first restaurant in Atlanta 29 years ago and has grown steadily – becoming known for its passion for grilling fresh, never frozen, steaks served in a relaxed, comfortable steakhouse atmosphere. But that first restaurant almost didn’t survive its initial year in business until good fortune fell from the sky in the form of a freak snowstorm in Atlanta. After stranded motorists (including a local restaurant critic) sought refuge inside, word quickly spread about the delicious steaks and genuine Western hospitality.

LongHorn is known for more than its signature hand-seasoned Flo’s Filet and the bone-in Outlaw Ribeye. LongHorn chefs grill fresh fish and chicken in addition to steak. Items such as LongHorn Salmon, a fresh, hand-cut salmon fillet seasoned with a bourbon marinade; fall-off-the-bone tender Baby Back Ribs; and Parmesan Crusted Chicken, two juicy chicken breasts grilled and topped with a parmesan cheese and garlic crust, are just some of the other specialties guests will find on the menu.

More than 29 years after opening its first restaurant in Atlanta, today LongHorn Steakhouse operates more than 350 restaurants in 33 states. LongHorn is a division of Darden Restaurants, Inc. (NYSE: DRI), the world’s largest full-service restaurant operating company. For more information about LongHorn, visit www.longhornsteakhouse.com.
