Bart Michael Benedetti, 42, of Fayetteville, has been charged with multiple felonies after being caught May 24 while trying to burglarize a barn on Kirkley Road just north of Tyrone, according to Investigator Brent Rowan, public information officer for the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office.
Benedetti was initially charged with burglary and possession of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute, Rowan said.
“This case involved Benedetti unlawfully entering into a barn located behind a residence on Kirkly Road with the intentions of stealing property located inside,” Rowan said. “Deputies arrested Benedetti at the incident location where they found a large quantity of methamphetamine on his person.”
The next day, deputies searched Benedetti’s home on Lee’s Lake Road and found eight firearms, including one that had been reported stolen. Along with the firearms, investigators also located a small amount of methamphetamine and ecstasy during their search of the home.
Benedetti now faces eight more counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and theft by receiving stolen property. Additional charges are expected in this case, Rowan said.
In a separate case, Fayette County Sheriff’s Investigators, with the assistance of the United States Mashals Service, made an arrest on May 19 in connection with a series of entering auto’s which occurred on April 17, May 1, and May 8, 2011.
Averi Dejean Bell, 30, of Atlanta has been charged with party to the crime of financial identification theft.
This case involved Bell assisting Latoya Ellis, 31, of Atlanta, arrested earlier this month in a string of entering auto cases that occurred during church services. Bell assisted Ellis in using stolen credit cards that were taken from these incidents, Rowan said.
