Two arrests have been made in connection with the shooting of a 56-year-old man who was walking along Ga. Highway 138 May 12, according to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office.

Dwayne Alfonzo Roberts, 18, and an unnamed juvenile, 16, both of Riverdale, were taken into custody May 24, officials said.

Meanwhile the victim remains at Atlanta Medical Center where he is still being treated for injuries he received during the assault, according to sheriff’s investigators. The victim was shot in the abdomen and also struck multiple times during the assault, officials said.

Roberts and the juvenile are being charged with aggravated assault, aggravated battery, armed robbery, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and false imprisonment. The juvenile will be charged as an adult, sheriff’s officials said.

The arrests were credited to a tip that also led to the recovery of some of the victim’s personal belongings that were taken during the robbery, investigators said.

“The cooperation from concerned individuals helped investigators solve this case,” said Inv. Brent Rowan.

Immediately after the incident, sheriff’s K-9 teams and its Hawk 1 helicopter attempted to track the suspects on foot, but the trail ended in a commercial storage area at the dead end of Commerce Street.

Roberts remains in jail pending a bond hearing; the juvenile is being held at an Atlanta youth detention facility.

Citizens observing crime or suspicious activity are urged to report it by calling 911 or the non-emergency number: 770-461-4357.
