Two Peachtree City juveniles are looking at felony charges in connection with two Feb. 26 golf cart thefts in the Kedron area. The juveniles, both age 16, were charged with felony theft by receiving stolen property, said Peachtree City Police spokesperson Rosanna Dove.

Dove said there were two golf carts stolen on Feb. 26. One of those, a 2002 Club Car on Las Brasis Court, was stolen at approximately 9:45 p.m. The other, a 1990 E-Z-Go on Henredon Hill, was stolen at approximately 11 p.m., Dove said.

Both golf carts were stolen from the driveways of the homes, Dove added.

Both golf carts were recovered on Feb. 27 at 11 a.m. near the intersection of Georgian Parkway and Regents Park, Dove said.

Dove said the two Peachtree City juveniles were subsequently arrested in connection to the thefts, though the felony by receiving charge relates to only one of the stolen carts.

Pertaining to the charge of theft by receiving stolen property, Dove said that through the investigation and statements made it was determined that a charge of theft by receiving on one of the golf carts was considered to be the most appropriate charge.

After the arrests both juveniles were taken to the Clayton County Regional Youth Detention Center.

“Stealing a golf cart is stealing a motor vehicle, a felony. With the price of golf carts and with Georgia law saying they are motor vehicles, it’s not just taking a toy to go joy-riding. It’s a real crime and a felony and kids need to understand that,” Dove said.

Dove said the police department is in process of developing a set of initiatives to help educate the public on golf cart theft prevention so “that they might better maintain the quality of life they moved here for.”
