An Atlanta man has been collared by Peachtree City police for stealing large quantities of gas from a local gas station.
Harrie Rodriguez Mapp, 30, used a white van that had a large gasoline holding container inside, police said. The local investigation began when a local gas station complained of the gas theft in which a subject in a van purchased a relatively small amount of gas but pumped a much larger quantity without paying for it, police said.
It was later determined that several other jurisdictions had similar reports, and Mapp was arrested Tuesday, police said.
Mapp, of Carlo Woods Drive, Atlanta, is charged with one felony count of theft by taking and misdemeanor criminal trespassing, police said. Also the Georgia Motor Carrier Compliance Division inspected Mapp’s van, resulting in further charges including: driving without a commercial driver’s license, driving an unsecured load, driving without hazardous materials shipping papers and failure to comply with hazardous materials procedures.
Police have not revealed how Mapp was able to pay small amounts for gas but get the larger quantity in return.
