Two Fayetteville men were charged Jan. 12 with a home invasion in north Fayette County. The resident, an East Point police officer, was slightly injured and found duct-taped when deputies arrived. He told deputies that masked men held him at gunpoint during the incident. The men were arrested minutes later by a Fayetteville Police officer.
Arrested were Clifton Jerome Scott, 21, and Brandon Christopher Herston, 21, both of Fayetteville, according to Fayette County sheriff’s spokesperson Brent Rowan. Both men were charged with burglary, armed robbery, false imprisonment, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, Rowan said.
Rowan said the Jan. 12 incident was called in to Fayette’s 911 center at 10:08 p.m. Rowan said that when Fayette County Sheriff’s deputies arrived, they found the East Point officer duct-taped inside his home with a minor injury to his forehead. The victim told deputies that two masked invaders forced their way into his home wielding a shotgun, said Rowan.
The officer said that the two robbers then bound his hands and feet with duct tape and proceeded to steal a flat screen television, a hand gun and numerous other electronic devices before fleeing the scene, Rowan said.
Rowan said the East Point officer — while still bound with tape — was able to dial 911 after the men fled the scene. He gave deputies a physical description of the two robbers but had not seen their vehicle, Rowan added.
Rowan said the officer received a minor injury to the forehead that was treated at the scene by paramedics.
Dispatchers issued a lookout and a Fayetteville Police officer at 10:19 p.m. saw a speeding vehicle near Ga. Highway 54 and Burch Road. The officer had been monitoring the home invasion call, Rowan said. The vehicle’s two occupants matched the description of the robbers provided by the victim, said Rowan.
Rowan said the robbery suspects attempted to elude the officer but were stopped on Chase Drive. Officers found items from the home invasion in the vehicle along with masks and a shotgun used in the incident, said Rowan.
Jerome Scott, the driver of the vehicle, was also charged with numerous traffic-related offenses.
Both men are being held without bond at the Fayette County Jail.
