The Peachtree City Police Department is reminding all citizens and motorists that the 2010 Peachtree Classic Road Race will be held tomorrow between 8 and 11 a.m.

Race volunteers and runners will begin arriving at the amphitheater complex as early as 5:30 a.m. The races are scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. and end at approximately 11 a.m. It is estimated that there will be 3,100 people participating in the races this year, which will affect the traffic flow and result in some road closings. Vehicular traffic is expected to be heaviest in the area of Peachtree Parkway and McIntosh Trail due to the number of participants.

The following is a list of road closings:

The southbound lanes of Peachtree Parkway will be closed from Windgate Road to Braelinn Road beginning at 8 a.m. until the last runner has left the roadway. All traffic will be directed to the northbound lanes for exit and entry to this area.

Barricades will stop all eastbound traffic on Kelly Drive at Sweetgum Road beginning at 6:15 a.m. This will include golf cart traffic. Golf cart drivers who wish to access the east side of Kelly Drive should use the golf cart bridge located at the end of Boxwood Court. It is anticipated that this intersection will reopen at approximately 11 a.m. Participants, volunteers, spectators, and all other motorists wanting to access the race staging area at the amphitheater parking lot should plan on entering from Peachtree Parkway due to this road closure.

Other locations along Peachtree Parkway, Braelinn Road, Kelly Drive, McIntosh Trail, Creekstone Bend, Garret Ridge, Planceer Place, Calgary Drive, and Log House Road will see traffic stopped periodically from 8 a.m. through approximately 9:20 a.m. These breaks in traffic flow are to allow for the participants to cross roadways, or complete a leg of the race on the roadway. It is anticipated that these breaks will be for a few minutes at a time.

Members of the Peachtree City Police Department and volunteers from the Peachtree City Running Club will be located at intersections along the race route, and are there to assist you. All motorists should adhere to the directions that they are given from these personnel.
