It is one of the largest arts festivals in the area, if not the largest, and it is celebrating it’s 40th year this year.
Now called the Powers’ Festival, (formerly Powers Crossroads), the event features arts and crafts vendors, demonstrations of chair caning, beekeeping, spinning, as well as a working grist mill and blacksmith shop. There is also a full schedule of entertainment, both musical and theatrical, each day and exhibits and games. There will also be a Horse-Drawn Carriage Exhibit this year.
The main draw of the festival has always been the juried arts and crafts show and there are artists working in mediums such as painting, photography, fiber, folk crafts, glass, pottery, sculpture and more featured in booths that stretch all over the scenic, wooded property. While perusing art is what brings thousands of people out each year, few would argue that the delightful and delicious treats available are a great attraction too. In addition to standard festival fare like hot dogs, funnel cakes, kettle corn, turkey legs and barbecue, there are also specialty items like deep fried Oreos, chocolate dipped cheesecake, key lime pie on a stick, fried green tomatoes, donuts, fudge and more.
Main Street Newnan will take over running the Powers’ Festival Country Store during the weekend and the store will be filled with items from downtown Newnan, anything that fits with a country store atmosphere.
Powers’ Crossroads Country Fair and Art Festival was formed in 1971 by local and well known artist, Tom Powers. Powers’ Festival will celebrate its 40th year by inviting back artists from the past and inviting new artists to showcase the finest in juried arts and crafts. Tradition will continue this Labor Day weekend as we welcome over 100 artists from all over the United States exhibiting and selling their creative work – making this a unique outdoor market, in a beautiful country setting. The site of the festival is on the beautiful grounds of the Powers’ Family Plantation and exhibitors are set up along winding paths under shady trees.
The festival, now operated by Coweta Festivals, Inc., is known nationwide and has been selected numerous times as one of the Top 20 Events in September by the Southeast Tourism Society.
